问题是莱姆病以及它可能给喜欢户外活动的人带来的后果。这种疾病是由蜱虫叮咬引起的,近年来越来越常见。我以前曾写过这方面的文章,但我看到很多人在享受大自然或在户外工作时,仍然没有得到这方面的信息。

莱姆病是由一种通常由蜱虫携带的细菌引起的。当蜱虫叮咬人类或其他动物时,就会将细菌传染给宿主。被叮咬后不会感到疼痛,也不会引起真正的注意。人们更常注意到的是蜱虫在皮肤上爬行时发出的 "痒痒 "声。蜱是一种非常小的无脊椎动物(想想小昆虫),成虫不到 1/4英寸,若虫阶段不到 1/2英寸,因此很难被发现。蜱虫通过捕食携带这种细菌的老鼠而感染这种细菌,然后在叮咬人时将细菌传染给人。鹿通常是蜱虫的宿主,当它们四处旅行时,蜱虫会被撞掉或掉落,然后附着在另一只哺乳动物身上。

即使在严霜过后,这些蜱虫也会活跃起来,而且往往在早春最先开始活动,寻找宿主。
